FAMILY YOUTH TAKE CENTER STAGE IN DEFENSOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS

“Wala na sang may mas importante pa sa aton pamilya kag kabataan. If we want to build a nation, we have to start with our family and our youth.”

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. prioritizes the welfare of the family and youth, placing them at the heart of his administration's programs under his development thrust “MoRProGRes Iloilo” or Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally-Competitive and Resilient Province of Iloilo.

Defensor underscored the importance of the family and youth in building a resilient nation during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Family and Youth Development Center in the Municipality of Igbaras on January 15, 2025.

Governor Defensor stressed that the government should take care of the basics in implementing programs, projects, and initiatives. Through the Provincial Population Office, the provincial government is pioneering the construction of a facility that will help strengthen and empower the family and the youth sector.

“The strength of the Filipino comes from our family. We are resilient because of our family. And we want to start building a nation from the family and our youth,” the governor enthused.

The two-storey facility worth P5 million will serve as a hub for the major programs and projects of local government units for the family and youth.

PPO Chief Atty. Ruel Von Superio said the FYDC is an innovative and strategic approach to the implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and the Adolescent Health and Youth Development Programs of the province of Iloilo.

“We aim to strengthen our network and intensify our collaborative efforts in addressing identified gaps and promoting the development, welfare and empowerment of the families and youth, not only of the municipality but of the entire Province of Iloilo,” Atty. Superio said.

Governor Defensor was joined by Atty. Superio, Mayor Vicente Escorpion Jr., Vice Mayor Sherwin Paul Guidato, and Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque who represented the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP-Iloilo) during the event.

The FYDC is being implemented by the Iloilo Provincial Population Office in collaboration with the municipal/city governments and their respective Sangguniang Kabataan and Local Youth Development Offices.

The first floor will cater to the Provincial Population Office in the respective municipalities/city and the Barangay Service Point Officer. The second floor will be occupied by the Local Youth Development Office, Office/Session Hall of the Sangguniang Kabataan, and the Local Youth Development Council Office.

The city/municipalities of Igbaras, New Lucena, Santa Barbara, Calinog, Lambunao, Passi, San Dionisio, and Sara were identified as pilot LGUs for the project.

Once completed, the FYDC will serve as a permanent and defined infrastructure for the conduct of the pre-marriage orientation and counseling (PMOC) session and serve as a training venue for youth and youth-related programs and other population and development programs and activities.
