For years, the farmers at Barangay Quinaspan in the municipality of Alimodian faced major challenges in hauling their agricultural produce to the market. 

Barangay Kagawad Roger Ambid, who is also a member of the farming community, recalled that they have to carry their harvest on their shoulder while traversing a rough road for hours just to reach the market in the neighboring town of Leon.

“Ginatuwang lang namon ang mga kamatis kag saging sa amon abaga lusot sa Barangay Buga pakadto sa banwa sang Leon,” Ambid said.

Ambid expressed his appreciation to Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and the Iloilo provincial government following the completion of the 470-meter barangay road which improved their mobility and expanded the market opportunities for his fellow farmers.

“Nagapasalamat gid kami sa aton gobernador kay hanggod ini nga bulig sa amon barangay. Salamat gid kay wala nagapabaya ang aton gobernador,” the barangay kagawad said.

Ambid joined Governor Defensor and the municipal and barangay officials led by Mayor Ian Kenneth Alfeche, Vice Mayor Geefre Alonsabe, and Punong Barangay Henry Canindo during the inauguration of the road project on March 4, 2025. Joining the event are Anilao Mayor Nathalie Ann Debuque and Provincial Engineer Romeo Andig.

The road project, amounting to P4.150 million, links the municipalities of Alimodian and Leon. It benefits hundreds of households and farmers, including those from the neighboring barangays of Quinaspan, who are now able to go to the market in less than an hour.

Governor Defensor thanked the barangay officials for contributing to the completion of the road project which is among the priority of the provincial government.

“You have been a good receiver of the programs and projects of the province. We saw the need to have this road concreted that is why we prioritized its completion,” the governor said.

Defensor also shared some of the future projects of the provincial government for Alimodian such as the construction of typhoon-resilient classrooms and a covered gym designed as an evacuation center.

The road concreting project is just among the priority infrastructure projects of Governor Defensor under his social justice agenda MoRProGRes Iloilo which aims to boost road connectivity and spur economic growth in the province.
