PROVINCIAL NUTRITION COUNCIL DISCUSSES STRATEGIES TOWARDS ACHIEVING ZERO MALNUTRITION

The Provincial Nutrition Council Technical Working Group convened for its third quarter meeting on October 21, 2024 to discuss vital initiatives and strategies aimed at achieving zero malnutrition in the province of Iloilo.

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Dr. Wendel Marcelo presented the nutrition status in the province, citing a decrease in the prevalence of malnutrition among children aged 0 to 59 months.

The TWG also discussed and adopted national policies related on nutrition, ensuring that these are implemented on the local level.

The Provincial Health Office is pushing for a provincial ordinance institutionalizing the dietary supplementation program for undernourished children in the province of Iloilo.

They also tackled the “Iloilo Provincial Healthy Lifestyle Promotion Policy” aimed at fostering wellness among all ages ranging from school children to the elderly in the province of Iloilo.

Dr. Marcelo emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in addressing pressing nutritional challenges.

Achieving zero malnutrition is part of the social justice agenda of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. under its development thrust MoRProGRes ILOILO or Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive, and Resilient Province of Iloilo.
