In response to the rising cases of dengue in the province, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. convened the Provincial Civil Defense Cluster to formulate a comprehensive action to combat the ongoing threat of the mosquito-borne disease.
The blended meeting was also attended by the concerned mayors whose municipalities recorded an increasing case of dengue.
Governor Defensor emphasized the urgency of the situation and the need to ensure that the provincial government has the available resources to be able to respond effectively to public health concerns.
“We want to have a clear picture of where we are now and what we have so we can have a better idea on how to move forward,” the governor said.
Data from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) as reported by the Provincial Health Office showed that the province of Iloilo now has a total of 3,174 dengue cases, including six deaths from January 1 to July 27, 2024.
The province recorded a 204% rise in cases compared to a total of 1,045 during the same period last year.
