The Iloilo Provincial Culture, Arts, History and Tourism Office (PCAHTO), in partnership with the local government unit of Carles and Central Philippine University, organized the Tourism and Green Investment Forum on September 25-26, 2023 at the Casa Real de Iloilo and the Provincial Capitol Lobby.
The event is part of the 19th Tumandok Celebration of the Province of Iloilo in line with the World Tourism Month.
Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin said the event aims to solidify the partnership of the three organizations and focus their efforts on sustaining Gigantes Island in Carles.
“We know that Gigantes has the highest contributions in terms of tourist arrivals for the last five or six years,” Marin said.
The activity gathered barangay officials, tourism officers, tour guides, resort operators, and private partners, among others.
Invited speakers include representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.
Marin also presented the “Bisita sa Barangay” initiative of Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr., a barangay-based tourism program which aims to develop homestay accommodation at the barangay level and provide livelihood to the residents. (Capitol News)
