MONTH OF THE OCEAN 2025 THEME UNLOCK OCEAN BASED SOLUTIONS TO CLIMATE CHANGE

In observance of the Month of the Ocean 2025, the Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) initiated a mangrove planting and coastal clean-up activity on May 20, 2025, at Barangay Tiabas, San Dionisio, Iloilo. A total of 150 propagules of Bakhaw bato (Rhizophora stylosa) and 350 propagules of Bungalon (Avicennia marina) were successfully planted.

The planting site is located adjacent to the thriving 8-hectare 2017 Mangrove Reforestation Project of the Provincial Government of Iloilo.

We extend our gratitude to the Barangay Council of Tiabas, ISF members of Tiabas, and the team of MENR Office led by MENRO Officer May Carnaje, for their continued support and participation.

✋THERE’S MORE! ✋

In line with the celebration, the PGENRO team will conduct a series of Information Education Communication (IEC) campaigns in Barangays Bondulan, Siempreviva, Nipa, and Cudionan, San Dionisio, Iloilo. These IEC campaigns will focus on promoting environmental awareness and education, emphasizing a ridge-to-reef approach in environmental conservation and sustainable practices.

The health of our oceans is intricately linked to the well-being of our communities. Through initiatives like this mangrove planting and coastal clean-up activity we hope to inspire a sense of ownership and responsibility towards protecting our marine resources. Happy Ocean Month! 🌊🐠🐚
