Local disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) officers of Iloilo Province are working to strengthen Early Warning Systems (EWS) through improved coordination and technology integration.
During the recent meeting facilitated by the PDRRMO-Iloilo, the officers discussed plans to install Automated Rain Gauges (ARG), Water Level Monitoring Systems, and Automated Weather Stations (AWS) in strategic locations.
Presenters highlighted the importance of integrating automated data with standardized reporting templates to enhance disaster preparedness and response.
Key concerns included flash flood risks in six municipalities and ensuring AWS functionality during power outages, with solar power identified as a viable solution.
To address these challenges, the Association of Local DRRMO Officers and a Technical Working Group (TWG) will draft a funding proposal to present to Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. on December 13, 2024.
This plan will include district-specific EWS strategies and maps for targeted installations, aiming to boost Iloilo’s disaster resilience.
