A festive blend of tradition and contemporary flair defined the Inter-Municipal Rondalla Contest, as audiences were treated not only to masterful string performances but also to familiar tunes that sparked nostalgia and excitement during the 125th Semana sang Iloilo celebration.
With this year’s theme, “Iloilo @ 125: Pagsaulog sang Padayon nga Kauswagan, Kapag-un kag Kadalag-an,” the event is part of the municipal festivities featured in the celebration underscoring the province’s cultural vibrancy while advancing its tourism campaign, “Fun Foodie Friendly Iloilo.”
The Municipality of Concepcion clinched first place, impressing judges with a polished and expressive performance. Dumangas followed in second place while Igbaras secured third place.
Other notable performances came from the municipalities of Ajuy, Barotac Viejo, Oton, and Dingle, highlighting the province’s inclusive approach in recognizing the efforts of all participating groups.
Participants likewise benefited from the exposure and incentives provided by the contest. The cash prizes are expected to support local music programs, instrument acquisition, and training initiatives.
The contest reflects Iloilo’s continuing commitment to preserving heritage while reimagining traditional art forms in ways that connect with today’s audiences.
