
University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) Project Leader Iris Ann G. Borlongan, Ph.D. receives two checks amounting to Php 400,000 each intended for their institution’s research projects on sea-based nursery system for tissue-cultured seaweeds and profiling and microbial assessment of native delicacies for sustainable food system strategies in Iloilo.
Releasing the checks in behalf of Gov. Defensor were Provincial Tourism Officer Gilbert Marin and Provincial Agriculture Office head Dr. Ildefonso Toledo with Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) research staff Soljane Catague and Executive Assistant Atty. Artem Ron Raymundo and PPDO head Valme Lujan.
The project is part of Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr.’s initiative of tapping various state universities and colleges (SUCs) and higher education institutions (HEIs) in the city and province of Iloilo to advance research, development, and innovation.
The collaboration aims to leverage the expertise of the academe in various fields such as science and technology, agriculture and fisheries, and public health, among others for joint research projects and knowledge sharing to attain the social justice agenda of the Defensor administration under his development thrust MoRProGRes ILOILO or Movement for a Robust, Progressive, Globally Competitive and Resilient Province of Iloilo.
