It’s good news for our BNS!

Starting this December, the Barangay Nutrition Scholars will be receiving cash assistance of P4,500 from the Iloilo Provincial Government as an incentive for their dedication and hard work in improving the nutrition status of Ilonggo children.

Capitol Increases Cash Assistance For Barangay Nutrition Scholars

During the 2nd BNS Convention at Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias announced that Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. signed Supplemental Budget No. 1 yesterday which covers the P500 increase in the annual cash assistance for BNS.

“We expressed our gratitude and thanks to our BNS volunteers for their service and laudable contribution to reducing malnutrition prevalence in the province,” Banias said.

Banias said that the provincial government is also considering another P500 increase in the annual assistance of BNS. Once approved, these volunteer workers will receive P5,000 every December.

Previously, Governor Defensor is giving a P4,000 cash allowance to barangay volunteer workers, including the BNS, in recognition of their effort in promoting health and nutrition at the grassroots level.

Entitled to this cash gift are those BNS who have rendered at least one year of service as volunteer workers.

Presidential Decree No. 1569 mandates the creation of the BNS Program in every barangay. They are called “scholars” because they undergo continuous learning under the program.

The BNS as volunteer workers is responsible for the delivery of nutrition services and other related activities such as community health, backyard food production, environmental sanitation, culture, mental feeding, and family planning in the barangay.
