Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. makes it a habit to visit public markets to understand the plight and struggles of small-scale businesses.

Today, the governor dropped by the Igbaras Public Market as a sidelight of the groundbreaking ceremony of the P5 million Family and Youth Development Center project of the Iloilo provincial government being implemented by the Provincial Population Office.

Defensor was accompanied by Igbaras Mayor Vicente Escorpion Jr. and Anilao Mayor Lee Ann Debuque.

The governor also bought two kilograms of red rice as part of his healthy diet and engaged with the merchants to get updates on the prevailing market price.
 
Food security is a priority program of Defensor and he encourages the public to patronize local agriculture to boost the local economy.
