A proposed partnership between the Iloilo Provincial Government, the Department of Education (DepEd), and Khan Academy Philippines is set to introduce an AI-driven learning platform aimed at personalizing education for thousands of public school students.

During a presentation before the Iloilo Provincial Education Reform Group (EDCORE), the Khan Academy Philippines delegation led by its President and CEO Atty. Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine outlined a tripartite collaboration that places learners and teachers at the center.

Under the proposal, DepEd will shoulder teacher trainings, logistics, and connectivity during sessions, while Khan Academy will provide its globally recognized, curriculum-aligned platform, training design, implementation monitoring, and incentives to ensure sustained engagement.

The provincial government, for its part, is seen to play a complementary role by supporting infrastructure improvements, including enhanced internet connectivity and the possible provision of learning resources in more than 1,050 of the province’s 1,750 public schools.

Initial data from DepEd show that at least 700 schools already have 30 or more devices, positioning Iloilo for a scalable rollout that could directly benefit thousands of students and educators.

Khan Academy’s platform offers free lessons, exercises, and instructional videos in subjects ranging from mathematics and science to economics and history, with real-time tracking of student progress.

Already adopted by over 2,500 schools nationwide, the program is seen as a key tool in improving learning outcomes.

Western Visayas, including Iloilo, has been identified by DepEed Secretary Sonny Angara as a priority region to model the integration of education technology in public schools.

Provincial Administrator Raul Banias expressed optimism over the initiative, noting the provincial government’s readiness to support measures that enhance quality education.

He recommended a follow-up meeting with Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and the Provincial School Board to further firm up the proposed collaboration.
