The Iloilo Provincial Bantay Dagat Task Force apprehended one hulbot-hulbot vessel engaging in illegal fishing in the municipal waters of Carles on August 21, 2024.

The IPBDTF conducted a seaborne patrol operation in the vicinity of Carles and were able to apprehend F/B JAF 8 piloted by Marlon T. Dela Peña from Brgy. Botongon, Estancia accompanied by 19 crew.

They were caught engaging in Danish Seine fishing locally known as hulbot-hulbot which violates section 246-1 of the Fisheries Administrative Order to Republic Act 10654 or An Act To Prevent, Deter And Eliminate Illegal, Unreported And Unregulated Fishing.

The boat captain is now under the custody of the Carles Municipal Police while the crew were released for not being covered by the penal provisions of FAO.

The fishing boat and its accessories are with the task force.

Eight tubs of assorted fish were recovered from the vessel amounting to more or less P30,000, which will be disposed to government penal hospitals and charitable institutions.
