ENSURING AVIATION SAFETY ILOILO PLANNERS AND CAAP STRENGTHEN COMPLIANCE WITH AERODROME SAFETY ORDINANCE

To strengthen the awareness of Zoning Officers and Planning and Development Coordinators from the municipalities of Sta. Barbara, Cabatuan, San Miguel, Pavia, Oton, and Maasin, Iloilo on aviation safety, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), in partnership with the Iloilo Provincial Planning and Development Office and the PDRRMO-Iloilo, conducted a coordination meeting on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at the Admin Building, Conference Room, Iloilo International Airport.

The discussion focused on the critical role of land use planning in compliance with Provincial Ordinance No. 2022-279, also known as the Comprehensive Aerodrome Safety Ordinance of Iloilo International Airport.

With rapid urban development expanding to the city's periphery, CAAP Area 6 Engineer Eusebio Monserate Jr. highlighted the importance of regulating vertical structures within the 8-kilometer aerodrome radius. He also urged zoning officers to ensure that urban expansion in their areas aligns with aviation safety standards and the National Building Code.

The Aerodrome Ordinance is designed to safeguard the environment within the obstacle limitation surface while upholding public safety and security within the territorial jurisdiction and airspace of Iloilo International Airport.
