The Municipality of Oton took another step toward building a more gender-responsive local government after its Municipal Human Resource Management Office (HRMO), in partnership with the Provincial Gender and Development Technical Working Group (GADIloilo TWG), conducted two batches of Gender Sensitivity Training (GST) for newly hired local government employees and sectoral representatives.
The first batch equipped newly hired LGU personnel with a foundational understanding of Gender and Development (GAD), gender sensitivity, and the role of public servants in promoting inclusive, equitable, and responsive governance.
The second batch gathered sectoral representatives, providing them with a deeper appreciation of gender issues, unconscious biases, stereotypes, discrimination, and the importance of fostering safe and inclusive communities where the rights of all individuals are respected and protected.
The Provincial GAD TWG emphasized that gender sensitivity is not merely about complying with laws and policies but about transforming attitudes and practices that enable government institutions to respond effectively to the diverse needs of women, men, children, senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, Indigenous Peoples, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and other vulnerable sectors.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions and experiential learning activities that encouraged self-reflection, challenged gender biases, and reinforced the value of equality, respect, and shared responsibility in public service and community leadership.
