IPG INKS MOU FOR FREE KNEE REPLACEMENT MISSION

The Iloilo Provincial Government (IPG) forged a partnership with a volunteer surgical team from Houston, Texas through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at expanding access to life-changing knee replacement surgeries.

The agreement brings together the IPG, the Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC), Lions International, and the Houston-based medical mission led by Dr. Michael George to strengthen collaboration in providing free orthopedic surgical services to qualified patients.

The partnership is already translating into direct benefits for patients, with the visiting team currently performing total knee replacement surgeries on 18 beneficiaries at WVMC, including 15 residents of Iloilo Province.

The procedure is expected to restore mobility and improve the quality of life of patients who have long struggled with severe knee disorders.

Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. welcomed the visiting surgeons and members of the medical mission during a dinner hosted by the provincial government in recognition of their humanitarian service and commitment to improving healthcare access for Ilonggos.

Representing the governor during the signing were Provincial Administrator Dr. Raul Banias, Board Members Dr. Darl Tupas and Atty. Dominique Oso, along with Dr. Don Garcia of the Provincial Health Management Office.

The medical mission is being facilitated by Lions International through the leadership of Atty. Domingo Oso Jr, Dr. Sonia Gallon, and Mrs. Myrna Bernal, in partnership with WVMC and the provincial government.
