The Iloilo Provincial Government, through its Gender and Development (GAD) Technical Working Group, extended support to the Miag-ao Public Employment Service Office (PESO) efforts to promote gender-responsive career guidance among learners.
Provincial GAD TWG Chairperson Jayrel Encontro served as resource speaker during the municipality’s Career Development Support Program (CDSP) for designated guidance counselors and career advocates from various secondary and integrated schools in Miag-ao on Aug. 26.
Miag-ao hosts 8 national high schools, 4 integrated schools, and 3 private schools.
Encontro discussed the role of career advocates in promoting gender equality in career decision-making, emphasizing the importance of helping learners make career choices based on their interests, abilities and aspirations rather than gender stereotypes and traditional expectations.
The activity was organized by the Miag-ao Public Employment Service Office (PESO), seeking to strengthen career development support and help learners navigate education and employment pathways.
The provincial government’s participation highlights its continuing support for local governments and schools in integrating gender equality into programs that influence young people’s education and career choices.
Iloilo’s GAD Technical Working Group has likewise provided technical assistance to municipalities on gender-responsive governance, including GAD planning, budgeting and the use of gender-responsive tools.
