MANIC MONDAY

Amidst his demanding Monday schedule filled with oathtaking ceremonies of elected municipal officials, courtesy visits, and check distribution, Gov. Toto Defensor makes sure that he keeps tabs on ongoing government programs that need urgent response.

After administering the oath of office of the elected municipal officials of San Dionisio and Lemery, Defensor convened the department heads to discuss his proposed smart and green regional government center in Santa Barbara and get updates on the rice convergence program.

The four-storey government center is designed as a one-stop shop for government services in Iloilo and in Region VI. It is part of Defensor’s vision of creating growth centers outside the city and stimulating socio-economic growth under his social justice agenda “MoRProGRes Iloilo.”

Meanwhile, the province of Iloilo is among the first local government units to respond to the call of Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure food security in the country by launching the SiPag at TiyaGa (Siguradong Pagkain, Tiyak na Kalusugan) for MoRProGRes sa Bagong Pilipinas, a food and health security convergence program.

One component of the program is selling rice at P20 per kilo to undernourished children below five years old.

During the meeting, they discussed the MOA between the province of Iloilo and the Food Terminal Incorporated (FTI) relative to the rollout of the rice program.
