The Province of Iloilo launched two educational modules under its Bulig Eskwela sang Probinsya (BES Probins) Program which aim to empower the youth through informed career choices and responsible voting para Bagong Pilipinas.
The Career Guidance Instructional Module (CGIM) is designed to guide secondary students in choosing a career based on the country’s labor requirement. The module will teach them the National and Local Development Plans so they will know the direction of the government and the economy.
The Voter’s Education Instructional Module (VEIM) aims to develop a citizenry capacitated to participate effectively, meaningfully, and intelligently in the electoral process in the country.
The launching was led by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. and was graced by Department of Secretary Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara. Also present in the launching are Uswag Ilonggo Partylist Rep. Jojo Ang, Iloilo 3rd district Rep. Lorenz Defensor, DepEd VI Regional Director Dr. Ramir B. Uytico, DepEd Iloilo Schools Division Superintendent Ernesto Servillon Jr, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, Board Member Jason Gonzales, municipal mayors, schools district supervisors, the CGIM and VEIM development team, partners from the national government agencies, and learners, among others.
Governor Defensor said the provincial government wants to establish an educational system that will meet human resource need of the government, economy, and industry.
“We want the product of our public school system to be the professionals and workers needed by the economy of the country,” he said.
“We want to be there as they choose a career and we want to teach them the direction of the country, the government, and the economy so that they become the human resource that we need and that they could have a job when they graduate,” the governor added.
The CGIM is also a localization of Republic Act 11206 or the Career Guidance and Counseling Act which Defensor authored when he was then-congressman of the third district. The governor also thanked Angara who sponsored a counterpart bill in the Senate when he served as senator.
Defensor added that the voter’s educational system will indoctrinate nationalism among secondary students.
The modules were crafted in collaboration with the DepEd Schools Division of Iloilo and the University of the Philippines Visayas.
“We want to contribute our fair share in the creation of a human resource and an electorate that is intelligent,” Defensor said.
BES Probins is a program for an effective, relevant and transformative educational system in the Province of Iloilo.
It also provides support to the infrastructures, facilities and operations of public schools, as well as, the other programs of the DepEd. (Capitol News)
