'Ibang-Iba Talaga, Ang Pasko Sa Nanga’ 🎅🎁

IBANG IBA TALAGA ANG PASKO SA NANGA

Gov. Arthur “Toto” Defensor Jr. spread joy and hope to 2,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iloilo District Jail in Brgy. Nanga, Pototan as part of his annual gift-giving tradition.

Governor Toto distributed gift packs worth P350 each containing food and essential items. He was joined by Bureau of Jail Management and Penology VI Regional Director Senior Superintendent Jhon Montero, Jail Administrator Atty. Jairus Anthony Dogelio, and Jail Warden Chief Inspector Mark Malhabour.

This annual gift-giving is a longstanding tradition started by Governor Toto’s father and former governor Arthur Defensor Jr. It is held in collaboration with the Iloilo Provincial Employees and Community Multi-purpose Cooperative (IPECMPC).

Governor Toto has consistently advocated for programs and projects leading to the rehabilitation of the PDLs and the improvement of the jail facility which is being managed by the BJMP.

The governor reiterated his plan to transform the jail into a training center to equip the PDLs with the necessary skills to prepare them for their reintegration into the society.

He also committed to address the basic needs of the area, particularly on water and other utilities.

Defensor’s annual gift-giving signifies the true essence of Christmas - sharing, forgiveness, and hope. Indeed, as sang by one of the inmates, “Ibang-iba talaga, ang pasko sa Nanga.”

Meanwhile, after the gift-giving, the governor also led the groundbreaking of the P8 million multi-purpose gym for the Iloilo District Jail Male Dormitory funded by the Iloilo provincial government.
