A major step toward improving maternal and pediatric healthcare in the province was taken as the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Department of Health (DOH), and key offices of the Iloilo Provincial Government convened a coordination meeting for the proposed Mother and Child Unit at the Iloilo Provincial Hospital - IPH in Pototan, Iloilo.
The meeting was presided over by Iloilo 3rd District Congressman Lorenz Defensor with DPWH OIC Regional Director Al Fruto, and DOH OIC Regional Director Dr. Ma. Sophia Pulmones, and key Iloilo Provincial Government officials in attendance.
Discussions focused on the building’s design, layout, and essential amenities to ensure the facility meets national health standards.
The facility will rise on a property acquired by the Iloilo Provincial Government specifically for the expansion of the Iloilo Provincial Hospital.
“I want to build this para may (healthcare) access ang women and children. Panamion ta guid ang healthcare sa Iloilo, sa tanan nga districts,” said Congressman Defensor, whose office is supporting the proposed facility.
Targeted for completion in 2028, the IPH Mother and Child Unit is expected to significantly enhance IPH’s capacity to provide specialized, safe, and patient-focused services for mothers, infants, and children, thus reducing referrals outside the province and bringing critical care closer to Ilonggo families.
