
Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. received the 7th Seal of Good Local Governance award for the province of Iloilo during the 2024 SGLG National Awarding Ceremony on December 9, 2024 at The Tent City, The Manila Hotel.
Governor Defensor received the award from Department of the Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary Atty. Odilon Pasaraba. He was accompanied by DILG Iloilo Provincial Director Engr. Carmelo Orbista. Also joining them is DILG VI Regional Director Juan Jovian E. Ingeniero.
This is the 7th SGLG award earned by the province of Iloilo. The others were conferred in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2023. Iloilo also made history by being the first province to receive the SGLG for four consecutive years (2015-2018).
Showing their support to the governor are Capitol department heads namely HRMDO Chief Atty. Renee Valencia, PDRRMO Ret. Pcol. Cornelio Salinas, PPO Chief Atty. Ruel Von Superio, PICAO Chief Jose Nereo Lujan, PGENRO Chief Atty. Caesar Emanuelle Buyco, PPDO Acting Head Valme Lujan, PESO Acting Head Cynthia Dario, and LEDIP Center Chief Aulynn Yue Sin.
Nineteen LGUs from Iloilo also got their SGLG award. These are Alimodian, Anilao, Banate, Bingawan, Cabatuan, Concepcion, Lambunao, Leganes, Maasin, Mina, New Lucena, Oton, Pavia, Pototan, San Enrique, Tigbauan, Tubungan, Zarraga, and Passi City.
SGLG, dubbed as the mother of all awards, is the highest award given by the DILG to exemplary LGUs performing efficiently and effectively across the ten governance areas.
The province of Iloilo was adjudged on the following governance areas: Financial Administration and Sustainability, Disaster Preparedness, Social Protection and Sensitivity, Health Compliance and Responsiveness, Sustainable Education, Business-Friendliness and Competitiveness, Safety, Peace and Order, Environmental Management, Tourism, Heritage Development, Culture and Arts, and Youth Development.
For a province to qualify, at least ten percent (10%) of its component cities and municipalities must also be SGLG passers. (Capitol News)
