The Provincial Government Environment and Natural Resources Office (PGENRO) under the leadership of Atty. Cesar Emmanuel Buyco also presented three separate awards obtained by the Province of Iloilo relative to outstanding environmental protection programs recently.
= The Department of Energy awarded a Plaque of Recognition to the Province of Iloilo for being a leader Local Government Unit (LGU) in the implementation of the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) in which 100% of its municipalities (including the component city of Passi) have formulated their local energy efficiency and conservation plans. The award was givn during the Energy Champions: Leader, Achiever and Pioneer Awards held in Cebu City.
= The Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) Region VI also awarded a Certificate of Recognition to the Province for its Outstanding Practices in Sustainable Solid Waste Management.
This regional recognition highlights the Province’s:
* Consistent and continuous compliance with the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003)
* Collaborative implementation of innovative and strategic waste management programs such as the Balik-Alat Project, Tapon to Ipon Project, Limpyo Eleksyon, Garden for MoRProGres, and Limpyo Dalanon
* Achievement of sector-wide compliance and significant contributions to maximizing resource recovery and recycling
= Governor Arthur Defensor, Jr.’s brainchild “Tanum Iloilo” was also given a Certificate of Global Gratitude the Normandy Chair for Peace, Gratitude of the People, International Council for Environmental Law (Madrid and New York), Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development, and the University of Hawaii Environmental Law Program.
