Second District: Eco-Cultural Destination


Ecotourism in Iloilo will keep visitors exploring forever. The Second Congressional District is positioned as the ECO-CULTURAL DESTINATION of the province and people visit the area every year to see its historic attractions. The district comprising the towns of Alimodian, Leganes, Leon, New Lucena, Pavia, San Miguel, Sta. Barbara and Zarraga. In the whole province, it is the smallest in terms of land area and population.

The area is blessed with an incredible landscape including vast rice fields, rugged mountains and lush forest. A visit to the district would not be complete without being amazed by magnificent natural beauty like Bucari of Leon and Seven Cities of Alimodian.

Practically every town from this district has its unique festival that offers a relatively pristine cultural experience to every visitor. Leading the pack is the provinces’ oldest cultural celebration, Carabao-Carroza of Pavia.

There are 18 accommodation establishments in the district offering 173 air-conditioned rooms and 71 fan rooms. The district is the fourth biggest contributor of tourist arrivals for the province.

To get to the town of Leon, visitors can take a jeepney or van at Pavia People’s Terminal in Barangay Ungka II, Pavia, Iloilo or at El 98 Street, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. For visitors wanting to visit Alimodian, San Miguel and Leon, jeepneys are available at the Aleosan Transport Terminal in El 98 Street, Mandurriao, Iloilo City or at Aleosan Transport Terminal in Barangay Hibao-an, Mandurriao, Iloilo City. To get to Sta. Barbara and New Lucena, one can take a jeepney at Ungka Transport Terminal fronting Christ the King Memorial Park in Jaro, Iloilo City.
