Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. leads the distribution of financial assistance for various school and barangay projects in the total amount of P44,111,815.24 at the provincial Capitol lobby on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. Joining the governor are Vice Gov. Christine Garin, Board Member Emmanuel Gallar, and Provincial Administrator Raul Banias.
Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. released a total of P44,111,815.24 in financial assistance to schools and various barangay projects in the province on Wednesday, December 13, 2017. The financial assistance to schools came from the Provincial School Board (PSB) funds which amounted to P38,083,815.24. The amount went to 96 elementary and secondary schools scattered in 27 municipalities.
The projects include repair/improvement of school buildings (P15,923,821.25), construction of school buildings (P2,338,793.99), construction of school facilities such as fence, comfort room, stage, canopy, multi-purpose hall/building, covered gym, etc. (P8,787,000), and procurement of instructional materials, books, chairs, other school equipment including IT resources (P400,000).
The province, through the PSB, also allotted P10,634,200 to Department of Education (DepEd) - Division of Iloilo as financial assistance for the conduct of congressional meets and integrated meet and cash incentives for medalists during the 2017 Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet and 2017 Palarong Pambansa.
Meanwhile, 16 barangays in 18 municipalities also received financial assistance for various projects in the total amount of P6,028,000. The funds came from the 20% Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) Development Fund and Subsidy to Local Government Units (LGU).
The projects include construction of footwalk, improvement of Day Care Center, rehabilitation and completion of barangay streetlights, completion of multi-purpose hall, among others, with the financial assistance ranging from P30,000 to P500,000. The checks were received by the barangay officials and some municipal mayors in a simple ceremony at the provincial capitol lobby.
Gov. Defensor cited that he always gives priority to schools and barangay projects because he knows its impact to the community. He assured that as long as he is the governor of the province he will continue to provide assistance to the schools and to help address the concerns of the barangays.
