OIC-Governor Atty. Dennis Ventilacion turned over a check worth P30,000 each to the families of two members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) from the municipalities of Leon and San Joaquin who were killed during a clash with the government forces.

Sgt. Rubin Perez, CMO NCO of the 61st Infantry Battalion; and Rani Melvi Cuarte, Social Welfare Officer IV of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office assisted Atty. Ventilacion during the turnover.

The aid is part of the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) of the Iloilo Provincial Government.

Iloilo Provincial EDCORE Team facilitated Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) at Barosbos Elementary School and Lantangan Elementary School in the Municipality of Carles, Iloilo on May 2-3, 2024.

The primary aim of these FGDs was to identify and address pressing issues within the local education system, particularly concerning the high prevalence of non-readers and slow readers.

Iloilo Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. cautioned the public against exposure to the scorching heat amid the El Niño phenomenon.

Defensor issued Executive Order No. 188 Series of 2024 enjoining Ilonggos to observe minimum public health standards against hazardous heat index.

The governor said exposure to heat should be avoided between 8 AM and 5 PM. Proper hydration should be observed and wearing thick or layered clothing should be limited.

Residents are also advised to stay indoors and refrain from holding public or social gatherings between 8 AM and 5 PM.

The Provincial Veterinarian's Office headed by Dr. Darel B. Tabuada procured anti-rabies vaccines worth P8 million to vaccinate 70 per cent of the dog population in the province of Iloilo from February to April to achieve herd immunity.

LOOK: El Niño action plan for health cluster presented by Provincial Health Office chief Dr. Maria Socorro Quiñon at the 2nd quarter PDRRMC meeting.

The PHO will provide water testing kits and chlorine granules for water disinfection to the 43 LGUs in the province to ensure sustainable and safe drinking water. Compliance of water refilling stations to safety and sanitation standards will also be closely monitored.

Medicines and other medical supplies will also be made available for water-borne diseases.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Cornelio Salinas provided updates on the damages in the agriculture sector in the Province of Iloilo due to the prolonged dry spell during the 2nd quarter PDRRMC meeting today, April 29, 2024.

The Province of Iloilo is bearing the brunt of the drought season, suffering a P1.025 billion loss in agriculture.

As the province braces for the wet season, Salinas also presented the preparation plan of the provincial government for La Niña.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has passed a resolution recommending declaring a state of calamity in the entire Province of Iloilo due to the prolonged dry spell that is taking a toll on the agriculture sector.

The resolution was passed during the 2nd quarter PDRRMC meeting presided by Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. on April 29, 2024, at the Casa Real de Iloilo Grand Social Hall.

Defensor said the declaration would allow the provincial government to utilize its disaster fund for mitigation measures and quick response efforts.
