ILOILO -- Alarmed by the decreasing fish catch in the Visayas Sea, an enforcement summit will be held on April to discuss the proposed ecosystems approach to fisheries management in the country’s third largest fishing ground.
ILOILO – After snorkeling in Agho Island in Concepcion town earlier this month, singer-songwriter Rockwell Ryan Ripperger of the famous American acoustic band Stephen Speaks decided to help the community restore its coral reefs.
“I do understand that after (Super Typhoon) Yolanda (in 2013), a lot of reefs in the Visayan Sea were damaged,” said Ripperger, adding that the restoration is possible since he saw “a couple of healthy reefs where there are plenty of corals and fish. But for most part, it's dead reef.”
ILOILO – The Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) of the Department of Agriculture has provided this province with initial 10,000 vials of anti-rabies vaccines for its province-wide dog vaccination this summer.
The shipment was part of the 16,500 vials worth P6.6-million allocation of BAI for the province.
“With the early arrival of anti-rabies vaccines, the province can jump start the one-time-high density mass vaccination and wrap up the same by June,” said Provincial Veterinarian Silvino Teodosio Jr.
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) chief Dr. Jerry Bionat briefs the representatives of the different offices in the Iloilo Provincial Capitol with regard to the forthcoming National Earthquake Safety Drill on Feb. 15, 2018 (Thursday) at 2:00 p.m. The representatives were given instructions on what to do and where to evacuate in the event of an earthquake which they will relay to their respective officemates.
