Another farm to market road is up for concreting in the province of Iloilo, this time in the municipality of Dueñas. The groundbreaking of Tinocuan-Maribuyong farm to market road held on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, signals the start of the road construction.
Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. led the groundbreaking ceremony in Brgy. Tinocuan, Dueñas with Department of Agriculture (DA) regional director Remelyn Recoter, Provincial Administrator Raul Banias, Mayor Mamerto Pelopero III and other local officials.
The project is being funded by World Bank under the DA’s Philippine Rural Development Program (PRDP). It involves the concreting of 9.9 kilometers farm to market road at the cost of P100,563.224.05. The road project has a width of 5 meters and thickness of 9 meters. The contractor Uy Condev Corp./G. Uy Construction Joint Venture is tasked to finish the project in 445 days.
Mayor Pelopero thanked Gov. Defensor not only for bringing the project to his municipality but also for assuming the 10 per cent counterpart fund that should have come from their municipality. “No words can express how grateful we are to you Gov,” Mayor Pelopero said.
The road project could benefit 29 barangays with an estimated population of more than 18,000 residents. It will not only provide comfort to the riding public but could also lessen travel time and reduce the cost of farm products, added Mayor Pelopero.
Recoter, on the other hand, noted that the province of Iloilo is very lucky to have obtained the biggest chunk of PRDP road projects in the amount of P557 million.
Gov. Defensor stressed that the completion of the Tinocuan-Maribuyong road is crucial in the growth and development of the municipality of Dueñas. He urged the local officials and the residents to take care of the road by being vigilant against overloaded trucks which usually destroy the provincial roads.
The Tinocuan-Maribuyong road is already the fourth PRDP road project being implemented in the province.
To note, there are three on-going PRDP road projects in the province, namely, Imbang Grande-Tagubong-Gemomua-Agahon-Agtabo, Passi farm to market road with a length of 28 kms. amounting to P257,800,001; Pob. Tacuyong Norte, Leon farm to market road with a length of 10.29 kms amounting to P114 million; and Parara-Jamog, Tigbauan farm to market road with a length of 7.89 kms amounting to P76,283,727.77.
Defensor said two more road projects are still waiting for inclusion in PRDP. These are San Antonio-Lambuyao-Abilay, Oton farm to market road (4.460 kms) and Bongol-Tambal-Quipot, Janiuay farm to market road (12.918 kms).
