The Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has approved a resolution recommending to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan that the entire province of Iloilo be placed under a state of calamity due to the onslaught of El Niño phenomenon. Five multi-purpose teen centers in Iloilo province will serve as pilot areas for the Tech4Ed program of the Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO). A memorandum of agreement was signed by ICTO representative Frederick Almores, Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. and Department of Education-Iloilo representative Ruben Libutaque for the said project on Tuesday, April 12, 2016. Tech4Ed will give communities access to information, communication, technology, and government services.
Governor Arthur Defensor said he is suspending the implementation of the salary increase of provincial government employees as prescribed by Executive Order No. 201 issued by President Aquino because he finds it unfair. He said that after the May 9, 2016 elections, he will ask the new President to review the modified salary schedule because it gave huge increases to those who are already receiving high salaries while those with low salaries received minimum increase.
