ILOILO – Five Ilonggos were invited by the Wonju City and Gangwon-do Saemaul Undong Center in Republic of Korea to represent Philippines in 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Youth Experience and International Project Talks.
Another batch of persons with disabilities (PWDs) received their customized wheelchairs and mobility devices courtesy of the Latter Day Saints Charities (LDSC) at the provincial capitol lobby on Tuesday, February 6, 2018.
LDSC partnered with the Iloilo provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) to distribute wheelchairs and other mobility devices to 600 qualified PWDs in the province. More than 400 wheelchairs were already distributed since 2015.
ILOILO – Governor Arthur Defensor Sr. is signing a memorandum of agreement with Paul Antoine Tolentino, the general manager of Una Kaya Futbol Club Inc., to make this province their home for future games.
Defensor and Tolentino will sign the agreement at 12:00 noon in the Governor’s Boardroom in Iloilo Provincial Capitol on February 6, 2018.
Under the agreement, the provincial government will make available the Iloilo Sports Complex as Kaya-FC’s home stadium for trainings and games for Philippine Football League 2018.
ILOILO – The owners and boat captains of two fishing boats that were apprehended for illegal fishing in Ajuy town will be facing multiple criminal charges before the office of the provincial prosecutor here.
The complaint for violation of Sections 86 (unauthorized fishing) and 97 (ban on muro-ami, other methods and gears destructive to coral reefs and other marine habitat) of Republic Act 10654 has been filed against Boat Captain Rogelio Reyes of FB Rosal on February 1.
ILOILO – Philippine Saemaul Undong, a movement inspired by the success of South Korea, celebrated its fourth foundation anniversary on Tuesday through sharing of best practices from two villages in Oton and Lemery.
Punong Barangay Antonio Masculino Jr. of Abilay Sur, Oton shared how their church and community infrastructures like irrigation canals, pathways and vegetable gardens were completed using “dagyaw” system.
An effective way to boost morale and ownership, dagyaw system means that able residents agree to provide their labor for free to construct a project.

Governor Arthur Defensor, Sr. led the turn over and inauguration of various projects in the Municipality of Ajuy on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 in a ceremony held at Ramon Rojas Memorial Gynasium in Ajuy, Iloilo.
First on the list was the turn over of a check amounting to P3 million as counterpart contribution of the province for the implementation of various projects identified by 13 prioritized barangays in Ajuy under the KALAHI-CIDDS.
