Leptospirosis is not only caused by urine from rats but also from other animals. This was clarified by Assistant Provincial Health Officer Dr. Ma. Socorro Quiñon following the sudden increase in Leptospirosis cases in the province of Iloilo.

The Iloilo Provincial Government rang the alarm bells against the dreaded Leptospirosis and Dengue hemorrhagic fever.

Gov. Arthur Defensor, Sr. reminded the public to be careful after the noted rise in Leptospirosis and Dengue cases in the province as reflected in the monitoring of the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (Pesu) of the Provincial Health Office (PHO).

The Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) has recommended a massive measles vaccination to children from 6 to 11 months old in four barangays of Batad, Iloilo after it noted a clustering of measles cases in the area.

It also recommended the conduct of random throat swabbing to patients in order to identify the strain.

Iloilo province is close to reaching its 85% target in filariasis mass drug administration as it registered 82.92% coverage last year.

Data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that a total of 1.3 million individuals beginning two years old were administered with the anti-lymphatic filariasis drug.
