Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor and representatives from the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and Department of Agriculture (DA) signed a Memorandum of Agreement on Monday (Nov. 14) that would pave the way for the establishment of a goat production center in Brgy. Belen, Concepcion, Iloilo.

Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo has already sent personnel to conduct field assessment on all municipalities affected by the rat infestation.

Toledo said aside from validating the reports of the agricultural technicians, the field assessment will also determine the effect of the local government’s intervention on the occurrence of rat infestation.

The Provincial Agriculture Office (PAO) has already released some 85 kilos of rodenticides to farmers affected by the rat infestation in the province of Iloilo.

PAO chief Ildefonso Toledo said there has been no increase in the number of affected areas as of August 2, 2011 but their personnel are continuously monitoring the situation.

Farmers associations from the towns of Mina, San Miguel, Concepcion, Dingle, Leon, Cabatuan, San Enrique, and Passi City were recipients of one sack of iron-fortified rice seeds given as part of the campaign to combat the problem on anemia in celebration of the National Nutrition Month after the flag-raising ceremony on Monday, July 4. Piggery, shrimp culture projects launched at IRC

Two techno demo projects on agriculture and freshwater fisheries - Piggery and Shrimp (Ulang) Culture were launched at the Iloilo Rehabilitation Center (IRC) in Nanga, Pototan on August 6, 2008 through the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
